I have been a member of the Alexandria Lions Club since 1996 and had the honor of being the Club’s President in 2001 to 2002. My father-in-law, Eric Harris, had perfect attendance for 63 years, so that knocked me out of being a Rotarian. I guess I could have been in another civic group but I would have had to have given up Sunday dinners with my in-laws. So, I chose Lions Club because of their long history of service and because my mother-in-law is a great cook.

Most people think that we only deal with blind people. That is our main area of focus, but locally we have a number of other projects. We support the Crippled Children’s Camp in Leesville, St. Mary’s Training School, Next Step, The Library and The Salvation Army. Belonging to a civic club is a great way to give back to the community. Everyone should belong to a club and there are plenty of great clubs in this area. Of course, I recommended The Lions Club because I am partial to Sunday dinners.
